Composed for the Dali Quartet 2012 Summer Camp and Festival Pre-College Orchestra. Premiere conducted by Eddie Marcano on August 12, 2012 in Lansdale, PA.

Work for SATB choir and mixed ensemble inspired by pot banging protests common in South America. Text by Alfredo Pérez. Commissioned by The Iberian and Latin American Music Society (ILAMS) and premiered on May 3, 2012 at the Purcell Room, South Bank Center, London, UK.

Especially composed for MSU’s Musique 21 Ensemble for a program titled “Return Flight” conceived around György Ligeti’s Musica Ricercata. Premiered on November 29, 2011 by trombonist Steven Kandow and Musque 21 at Snyder Hall, Michigan State University.

2011 The Worst [Empanadas] in London, for solo piano
Commissioned by Music in the Loft especially for Liaisons: Re-Imagining Sondheim from the piano, a tribute project that gathers piano adaptations of Stephen Sondheim’s songs by more than thirty composers. Premiered at Symphony Space in New York City by Anthony de Mare on April 21, 2012.

2011 Monkey to the Sky: Concertino for euphonium, piano and winds
Commissioned by Robert Benton and the New Euphonium Music Commissioning Consortium. Scored specifically for the same instrumentation used in Leos Janacek’s 1926 Capriccio. Premiered on May 4, 2011 by Robert Benton and a student ensemble from University of Michigan, Stamps Auditorium, Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Composed for and premiered by violist Roberto Díaz through a Michigan State University Intramural Grant (IRGP) from the Vice-President’s Office for Research. Premiered on October 22, 2010 by R. Díaz and the Michigan State University Symphony Orchestra, Leon Gregorian, conductor. East Coast premiere in Camden, NJ on October 15, 2011 by R. Díaz and Symphony in C, Rossen Milanov, conductor.

Commissioned by the American Bandmasters Association and The University of Florida for premiere by the University of Florida Wind Symphony conducted by David Waybright, October 1st, 2009. The Michigan State University Wind Symphony previewed the work at the CBDNA Conference held at The University of Texas-Austin, March 28, 2008.

2007 Rumba Sinfónica, for Latin band and symphony orchestra
Composed in collaboration with Jorge Gómez for Tiempo Libre. Commissioned by Minnesota Orchestra, Detroit Symphony, Ravinia Festival, and Festival of the Art BOCA. Premiered by Tiempo Libre and the Minnesota Orchestra conducted by Sarah Hicks on November 16-17, 2008, and subsequently performed by Tiempo Libre and the Lynn University Symphony Orchestra at the Festival of the Arts Boca, the Detroit Symphony, and the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra at Ravinia.

2007 Perfiles Sospechosos, for flute, cello, and percussion
Trio for flute (C, alto, piccolo), cello, and percussion commissioned by The National Flute Association Inc. Premiered at the NFA’s Convention in Albuquerque, NM, on August 12, 2007. Luis Julio Toro, flute; David Speltz, cello; Tracy Freeze, percussion. Subsequently performed by flutist Marissa Olin.

2006 Al Otro Lado del Rio, for guitar and string quartet
Fantasy on a tune by Jorge Drexler for guitar and string quartet. Commissioned by Music in The Loft and generously funded by the Alvin H. Baum Family Fund. Premiered at Music in The Loft by guitarist Rami Vamos and Pacifica String Quartet on November 18, 2006. The original tune by Jorge Drexler won the 2004 Academy Award for best soundtrack.

2006 Fronteras Abiertas (Froteras Abiertas), for solo violoncello
Commissioned by cellist Carlos Prieto in connection with activities surrounding the release of his book The Adventures of a Cello (University of Texas Press). Premiered at University of Texas, Austin on October 15, 2006. Subsequently revised with the help of cellist Miguel Rojas.

2006 Child Poet Perfectly Contented in Foreign Lands, for solo piano
Commissioned by Welz Kauffman and Ravinia Festival to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Robert Schumann’s death and included in the One Score, One Chicago New Scenes from Childhood Project. Premiered at Ravinia Festival by pianist Benjamin Hochman on September 13, 2006.

2005 Compass Points (Puntos en la Brújula), for Bb Clarinet, Violin and piano
Commissioned by Trio Verdehr and Michigan State University. Premiered by Trio Verdehr on April 2, 2006 at the MSU School of Music Auditorium. Performed extensively by Trio Verdehr throughout the US and South America. The New Juilliard Ensemble did the New York premiere of the work at MoMa’s Summergarden Festival, July 19, 2008.
